Dear OpenDoc Society members,

we are happy to be able to inform you that OASIS has today announced the
14 day voting period for the final OASIS wide vote on Open Document
Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) Version 1.2, which was
published nearly six months ago on March 17th of this year. Of course
many office products already have support for ODF 1.2 in the most
recently published versions of those products, but this is nonetheless
an important milestone to reach - if only because many governments
around the world are eagerly awaiting the final publication in order to
be able to add this much improved new version of ODF to their list of
mandatory standards.

OASIS states that all requirements of the OASIS TC Process have been
met, and the Committee Specification was submitted to the voting
representatives of OASIS organizational members. The ballot opened
today, 15 September 2011, at 00:00 AM EDT and will close 29 September
2011 at 11:45 PM EDT.

* IMPORTANT *

If you work for an organisation that is a member of OASIS, please
check with your designated representatives [1] to see if they've already
voted. Official voting representatives of OASIS members can access the
ballot to cast their vote at:

http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/voting/ballot.php?id=2115

The Committee Specification can be found at

http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/cs01/OpenDocument-v1.2-cs01.html

Each OASIS organizational member has one vote. OASIS members should
ensure that their organization's voting representative votes according
to the organization's wishes.

For those people that either are responsible within their government on
standards policy or that advise them, now is probably a good time to
start preparation on updating any relevant policies to the new version
as soon as possible. So far all the votes have been unanimous, so it
looks like the hard work of the OASIS OASIS ODF TC should be finally
rewarded before the end of this month with the publication of ODF 1.2.

Kind regards,

on behalf of OpenDoc Society
Michiel Leenaars
